The area around Killin many Munroes with a few miles making the Kinnell Self Catering Farm Cottages a great place to be based to enjoy the mountains in the area. The list of mountains below are all within a 12 mile radius (the starting points at least). These include the close by Tarmachan Ridge and the Lawers group just a couple of miles to the north of us, the Crianlarich mountains a short drive to the west which of course include the Ben More and Stob Einnien pair. To the south you have Ben Vorlich and Stuc a' Croin. There are of course many others but perhaps not quite as famous.
Ben Lawers and its associated muroes can be seen from your self catering cottages. They tower above Loch Tay just to the north of our estate. Ben Lawers is the highest of the group at a height of 3,982 feet making it the 10th highest in Scotland and higher than any mountain in the rest of the UK. Ben Lawers is usually climb by way of Ben Ghlas then down some way then up to Lawers summit and for the fitter they can carry on to summit An Stuc, Meall Garbh and Meall Greigh.
Other Munroes associated with Lawers are Meall Corranaich and Meall a' Choire Leith making a short afternoon climb to achieve both (the starting car park is quite high up). A good hike on a cold day before going back to the warmth of your cottage at Killin.
Tamachan Ridge is a group of mountains immediately to the west of Lawers. There are 4 munroes in the group which in reasonable weather can be achieved on a single outing. The highest is of course Meal nan Tarmachan and is usually the first to summit in the day followed by Meall Garbh, Beinn nan Eachan and finally Creag na Caillich, then a 4k walk back to your car. After that get changed and showered at your cottage and perhaps a short walk to a restaurant or pub to finish off a great day out.
